A rare cause of bleeding

AHA is a rare autoimmune bleeding disorder characterised by IgG antibodies to coagulation factor VIII. It is a disease of the elderly and often presents with life-threatening or widespread subcutaneous bleeding. Management should always be led by a specialist haemophilia unit. Although treatment confers a roughly two-fold improvement in recovery and overall mortality, the risk of death remains significant.
