Older men with type 2 diabetes have reduced risk of prostate cancer

First published April 2016, updated March 2022   At least three years after a type 2 diabetes diagnosis, men aged 65€“74 years had a 27% decreased risk of prostate cancer compared with non-diabetic men, researchers led by Diego Serraino, MD, of the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit, IRCCS CRO National Cancer Institute, Aviano, Italy, reported in Cancer Epidemiology. The reason for this inverse relationship may be the reduced androgen levels among diabetics, the researchers said.
