Around half of junior doctors are considering leaving the profession

A new survey by Medscape has revealed that one in two junior doctors (45%) are considering leaving their profession and pursuing non-clinical careers.

A new survey by Medscape has revealed that one in two junior doctors (45%) are considering leaving their profession and pursuing non-clinical careers. The survey of 1,012 UK doctors found that the top reason for this was burnout (37%), but this does not seem to be directly linked to the Covid-19 pandemic. Younger doctors (below the age of 45) were found to be more likely to consider a career change (34%), compared to those over 45 (27%), while female doctors were more likely to report the same compared to their male colleagues (36% compared to 25%).
